He pans for gold and pays for holidays with it

A pensioner from Gönyű, János Szabó, goes to the Danube to pan for gold, Ripost reported. According to the article, he cannot make a living from it, but the gold he finds always pays for a two-week seaside holiday.

He began panning in the early 1980s, and his colleagues thought he was crazy. But as the saying goes, he who laughs last laughs best. János ignored the criticism and found gold on his first attempt—not much, just a few tiny grains. He continues this pastime to this day; everyone needs a hobby.

He also shared the secret of gold panning: “It is worth looking where the outside of the river bend is convex; the Danube slows there and deposits its sediment.”
